These seven years have turned Photo Raw into Raw View. This publication is not just a triumph of visual journalism but it also aims to tackle complex and difficult subjects. We want to create a magazine that inspires, stimulates and entertains.
Relaunching the magazine, we wanted to change its concept and decided on a bookazine format, increasing the number of pages to 160 and creating a more lasting appearance. Alongside the paper version we are also launching an e-magazine and a new website.
We took our time with the reshaping process so that we could offer our readers the best possible magazine. The esteemed graphic designer Teun van der Heijden contributed by creating a clear, dynamic and exciting visual appearance for the already established magazine.
By reshaping we can raise our profile. As of now, the magazine will be issued in two versions: one in English and one in Finnish. New recruits to the Raw View team include also two photographers who will take up the photo editing work: the American Rian Dundon, and the Canadian Johan Hallberg Campbell. We also have a visionary international group of advisors and contributors working with the Finnish editorial team.
Although many things have changed, Raw View is still a magazine that specializes in documentary photography. We are interested in carefully crafted photographic projects that take an artistic approach to societal subjects.
Raw View also aims to support the photography community by publishing this ecommercialized, non-profit magazine. We want to keep documentary photography alive!
We believe in print media and trust that when you invest enough thought and passion into a publication, it will survive. We want to publish something that you can hold in your hands and smell and touch its materiality.
Finally, I’d like to thank my dear editorial team: without you I wouldn’t be doing this. I take the fact that you’ve stayed with us for years now as a true expression of love for photography and making this magazine.
I’d like to extend a special thank you to four people: Hester Keijser for the open and interesting conversations, and Jukka Onnela and Tanya Habjouba for introducing me to Hester Keijser. I thank you for your passionate attitude to photography, photographers and creating Raw View. You’re treasures.
